So you’re thinking of buying a used boat? The first thing you need to take into consideration is to make sure it suits your needs
There is a lot of tender love and care you’ll need to spend with your boat. Also even though you have your boat licence practice is important and having a partner, mate or wife who also loves boating will also need to know areas of boating to make it as easy as possible for the driver and everyone on board.
Noting this, it should come as no surprise that there are certain things you need to be looking for when purchasing a used boat. Here’s an overview of things you should be aware of:
The Prior Owner
this is where dealing with a broker is great. They know all the information on the boat and will have prior records to discuss with you. Be sure to ask the broker lots of questions. Has the boat ever had any major repair work done? Has it ever been in an accident? How old is the motor? Have there ever been any issues with it etc. Also we highly recommend making sure the boat you are about to purchase has a survey in which this is where Australian Marine Sales Agent/s can recommend one for you who they know and is good.
The more you know about the boat and its history, the better off you are when deciding whether it would be a wise purchase or not.
